Filk Album Project
May 4th, 2008 — Wandering GeekOk, I’ve really gone and done it this time. I’ve probably bitten off more than I can chew here, but I’ve commited myself (No, not that way, but maybe I should) to putting together an entire 74 minute CD of original parodies (Or “filk music”) in time to use them as a promotional give-away at Gen Con Indy in August. This gives me about 10 weeks to put together 20 songs! Yikes! Even the pros don’t do anything that stupid!
So, if you want to check out my progress to either outstanding triumph or dismal failure check back here often as I will be updating this page at least once a week and probably be posting new songs as they are done.
Songs needed for the CD: 20
Songs picked out to parody and themes decided on: 20
Lyrics at least started: 18
Lyrics Finished: 16
Songs recorded: 14
Songs released: 14
OK, basically I just ran out of time for this one. I made it to 14 completed songs (Plus one extended mix) taking me to right around an hour worth of music. Not too shabby for a freshmen outing with a laptop and a headset microphone and limited time. I will admit that a couple of the songs are weaker than I would prefer, but again I had the deadline of Gen Con, minus production time, to get this done by. Fastest filker, nope, Tom Smith has nothing to worry about there. I do think ”Geeks On Vacation” turned out pretty good though and I hope you enjoy it.
